We’ve rebuilt My First Job in Film. Getting into film is hard, and most people do it with nobody showing them the way. So we’ve rebuilt the site around one thing: getting you into the industry faster. It looks different, but the bigger change is what’s on it. Everything new is there to guide you, teach you, support you and kit you out for the job. Here’s what that means for you.
Guides you Your own route into film, step by step Answer three quick questions: where you are now, the job you’re aiming at and what you’ve already done. My Journey lays out your path in the right order, using everything we’ve built, from the Career Matcher and the career planners to the CV Builder, with the MFJF team beside you all the way. On the menu: My MFJF › My Journey
Teaches you Learn the job before your first day 34 two-hour online courses, including one for every entry-level area of the industry, on set and in the office. Each one shows you how the department really works, what to learn before day one, where experience comes from and what your CV should say, and ends with your own plan. Start with MFJF 101: how to find work, how long it takes and what you get paid. There are 12 short courses too, on the jargon, the paperwork, the software and the money, to read the night before you start. Anyone can look inside every course. The lessons come with MFJF PRO. On the menu: My MFJF › MFJF Foundations
Equips you A CV written for the job you want It opens through your MFJF account, so it already knows who you are and what you’ve done. Pick the job you’re going for, and it drafts your CV from your profile and the CV you already have, laid out the way the industry reads one. Every word is yours. Change anything you like, download it as PDF, Word or Canva, and keep one for every job you apply for. It’s part of MFJF PRO. On the menu: Career Resources › CV Builder
Makes your case A cover letter written to the job Pick a live job and the CV to draw on, and the Cover Letter Writer writes one plain page to that job and that company, from what you’ve actually done. No padding, no flowery lines. Read it, change what you like, and send it with your application. It’s part of MFJF PRO. On the job board: Before you apply
Fast-tracks you Get your CV in front of the people hiring Every month we send the HotList to the production managers, coordinators and film companies who hire for entry-level roles, on set and in the office: your profile picture, your CV and how to reach you, grouped by the area you want to work in. It’s part of MFJF PRO, and you apply to join. If it’s too early for you, we’ll tell you, and send you exactly what to do next. On the menu: Find a Job › The HotList
Supports you You’re not doing this on your own Looking for work in film can be lonely, and it’s easy to feel you’re doing it all on your own. With PRO you’re not: you’ve got your own personal career mentor, and that’s us. Someone to talk to every month, guiding you through this journey and answering all your questions. Not PRO yet? See what PRO gets you
